This course is designed for those required to wear breathing apparatus for part of their job - because they are working in a confined space, with hazardous gases/ vapours, in a toxic atmosphere or for other applications requiring the wearing of breathing apparatus.

On successful completion of this course, students will be eligible for a Statement of Attainment (SOA) for:
An SOA will be issued by Skills Network Australia Ltd within 30 days of completion of the course, provided all USI, fees and charges have been finalised.
The units of competency listed above are current on the National Register of VET at the time of publication.
Prerequisites
This unit requires the ability to interpret any permits or other documentation associated with the wearing of breathing apparatus for the job. Writing is required to the level of completing required workplace reports. Numeracy is required to enable the determination of the available working time from a breathing apparatus set and similar activities. The student will require a cleanly shaven face in order to complete the practical elements of the course.
Course Requirements
Foundation skills are the underpinning communication skills required for participation in the workplace, the community and in adult education and training.
Learning – to learn to enter and work in confined spaces
Reading – to read the entry permits, SMWS signage and instructions
Writing – to complete entry permits and documentation such as reports/risk assessments.
Oral communication – to communicate whilst working in the confined space
Delivery Modes
1 day classroom training and assessment.
Training and assessment can be adjusted to account for specific workplace requirements and the existing skills and knowledge of the students.

Renewal
The recommended industry standard recommend that refresher training should be carried out every two years. Ask your employer about their currency expectations.
